Starting to notice wrinkles forming on your face? Like crow’s feet at the corner of your eyes or the creases on your forehead?

Fine lines and wrinkles can be frustrating — and having to deal with them as you get older can be challenging.

Fortunately, we have something that can help! Xeomin is one of the most popular wrinkle relaxers available today for improving the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines.

Keep reading if you want to know more about Xeomin.

What Is Xeomin?

Xeomin is a non-invasive, FDA-approved wrinkle relaxer. This injectable is great for treating moderate to severe glabellar lines. With Botulinum toxin type A as its active ingredient, Xeomin relaxes the facial muscles in the treated area, smoothing out existing wrinkles and preventing new ones from forming.

Like any wrinkle relaxer, Xeomin is injected into the target area using a fine needle. It works especially well for frown lines, but can also be injected into the following areas:

What to Expect from Your Xeomin Treatment

A Xeomin injection isn’t necessarily painful, though you may feel a prick in the treated area. You may also experience redness, swelling and bruising around the treated areas after the procedure. Keep in mind that these side effects should go away within days after your treatment.

Your skin may feel a little numb or tingly shortly after the injection as well, but this is normal and should subside within an hour afterwards. Some patients can also experience a temporary itching and burning sensation at the injection site, but these aren’t common and should also subside within a few days.

Aftercare

It is important to follow the proper aftercare guidelines to ensure optimal results:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure as well as tanning beds for at least 24 hours. If you can’t avoid the sun entirely, apply sunblock with SPF 50 and put on a hat before you go outdoors.
  • Refrain from alcohol consumption for 24 hours after your treatment because this can lead to bruising and swelling.
  • With your attending physician’s permission, don’t take any aspirin and ibuprofen for 24 hours after your procedure because these medications can increase your risk of bruising or swelling.
  • Stay upright at least four hours after the injection and steer clear of any strenuous exercises for up to a week afterwards. This will help prevent the neurotoxin from migrating to other areas on the face.

Results

You can see the initial results from a Xeomin injection usually around 3 to 4 days after the procedure. As for the full effects, they usually emerge within a week.

The effects of Xeomin can last up to four months, but this varies per patient, depending on how quickly your body can metabolize the substance. Xeomin’s results aren’t permanent, so you need to get follow-up treatments to maintain the results.
